For Mel, 2017 has been a busy year of touring New Zealand, Australia, and Europe in support of her highly acclaimed third album Drylands. She’s looking forward to wrapping up the year with this national tour – her first with Greg.

We’re going to have great fun with each other’s songs. Touring around some of my favourite NZ venues on the cusp of summer with Greg and a great band – bring it on!”

“I met Mel when she opened for me in Queenstown in 2011,” says California-based Greg. “She impressed me a lot as a wonderful songwriter and since then she’s gone from strength to strength building an audience all around the world.

“I’m sure my crowd and her’s will cross over a fair bit, while the uninitiated are in for a great night of discovery”.

Greg’s forthcoming EP Low Frequency Word will be released ahead of the tour, and will be available on CD at all shows.

Expect plenty of songwriting gems from the pair responsible for the likes of ‘Save Yourself’, ‘Isabelle’, ‘Far Away’, ‘Don’t Wait Another Day’, ‘Get Out Alive’, ‘Now The Sun Is Out’, and many more!

ACROSS THE DITCH TOUR – MEL PARSONS & LIZ STRINGER (AUS)

August 14, 2017

MEL PARSONS (NZ) & LIZ STRINGER (AUS)
AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND – SEPT/OCT 2017

Join two of Australasia’s indie-folk darlings on a journey of music & story – sharing songs from their back catalogues along with select southern hemisphere favourites that have helped shape them as artists.

Both performers have distinctive voices, a story-telling bent and a dry humour that will have audiences laughing & crying, not necessarily in that order.

Mel Parsons is well known to NZ audiences, the award-winning songwriter tours full time from international festivals to woolsheds in our own backyard, and has her third critically acclaimed album under her belt. Parsons has played some of Australia’s finest folk festivals including Woodford, Port Fairy and The National Folk Festival in recent years.

“Exceptionally written, beautifully arranged and remarkably consistent” – The Music AU
“Captivating… impressive new material” – NZ Herald

Liz Stringer is a highly regarded songwriter and musician in her home country of Australia, who has toured internationally with a host of artists and now counts Bonnie Raitt in her ever-growing list of fans. Stringer is returning fresh from a Canadian summer tour, completing just over a year of touring to support the critically acclaimed release of her 5th studio album, “All The Bridges” in July 2016.

“Anyone recalls a Chrissie Hynde-like balance of unsettling lyrical directness and pop composure”
– Rolling Stone

“Liz Stringer has become one of the most respected singer-songwriters on the national scene”
– TheMusic.com

Parsons & Stringer kick off their trans-Tasman run in Australia on September 21st in Adelaide, running through until October 14th in Canterbury, New Zealand.

Australian Tour w Anika Moa

Two of New Zealand’s favourite singer-songwriters hit Australian shores this Nov/Dec, with an intimate double bill solo tour from east coast to west. Anika Moa & Mel Parsons, both multi award-winning touring artists, will be performing songs new and old, with plenty of laughs in between.

Anika Moa needs little introduction in her home country – as famous for her hilarious on-stage banter as for her phenomenal voice, Moa, whose seventh album came out this year and now has her own TV show, is bona fide kiwi music icon.

Mel Parsons is on the road to mark the Australian release of her multi-award winning latest album ‘Drylands’, out on November 4th via MGM. A relentless touring artist, Parsons spends much of her time living out of a suitcase, with recent tours in North America & Germany.

“A world-class, quintessentially Kiwi show full of heart and humour…guaranteed a great night out. Do NOT miss it”” – Theatreview.

Travelling by trusty horse truck (and carting a bar, 150 chairs, stage curtain, props, full production equipment and crew along for the ride) the talented trio will capture audiences once reserved for the likes of the Topp Twins, Fred Dagg, and Murray Ball, transforming working wool sheds throughout heartland New Zealand into real-life show spaces for an unforgettable night in the country.

Winner – 2016 NZ Country Song of the Year

June 30, 2016

Mel Parsons has just been announced as the winner of the 2016 NZCMA Best Country Song of the Year with her song Alberta Sun. Parsons is firmly established as one of New Zealand’s great song writing talents. Last year she was a finalist for the APRA Silver Scroll Award, and has twice graced the finalist list for Folk Album of the Year. Alberta Sun is from her latest album Drylands.

“Mel has crafted a deeply personal, dreamy country ballad in Alberta Sun. Relaxed and assured, it’s the sound of a song written by a song writer who knows her craft,” says APRA AMCOS’ Head of NZ Operations Anthony Healey. “A very deserving win for a song writer and performer who just seems to go from strength to strength.”
